Shout Out to the Rotary Club of Cochrane for their generous donation! When you make a general donation to a charity, those dollars count as unrestricted funds. It’s not well known how important unrestricted funds are to charity organizations. Grants and large club donations don’t usually fund administrative costs or salaries so charities often don’t have enough staff or the right training for their staff to handle the kind of traumas and complexities that clients bring with them. The need for consistent community level donations – without restrictions, so we can hire and train staff to serve the vulnerable appropriately is constant. As a society we need to rethink how we offer our donation dollars and offer them to charities in a way that actually helps the charity do it’s job.
